Everything you need to pick the right Isle of Man eSIM in 2026: how Manx Telecom and Sure compare, coverage across the island, install steps, and how much data a trip needs.

Many UK phone plans do not treat the Isle of Man as home, and EU roaming rules do not apply there either, because the island is a Crown dependency with its own networks, Manx Telecom and Sure. The Isle of Man sits in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland, famous for the TT motorcycle races, the capital Douglas, steam railways and rugged hills. Getting around runs on good data for maps and messaging, and an eSIM is a clean way to get it, especially since the island is a separate market from both the UK and the EU. Install before you go, arrive at Isle of Man Airport, and your phone connects to the local network.
The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency with its own mobile networks, not part of the UK, so a UK SIM roams onto Manx Telecom or Sure when you arrive. Manx Telecom warns on its roaming tariffs page that, as some UK operators reduce or remove inclusive roaming, some visitors to the island may incur roaming charges depending on their own provider's tariffs. Check your UK plan's list of included destinations before relying on it.
EU plans are no safer: the island is outside the EU, and the European Commission's Your Europe roaming page limits roam like at home to the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine. Visitors from the US or elsewhere pay their carrier's international rates. A dedicated Isle of Man plan sidesteps all three cases.
Manx Telecom, the island's main operator, says on its roaming page that coverage is generally very good except in some mountainous or remote areas, and that it has roaming agreements with more than 380 operators worldwide. Sure is the second network.
In practice, Douglas and its promenade, Onchan, Ramsey, Peel, Castletown, Port Erin and the area around Ronaldsway Airport are well covered. The upland stretches are where the signal can dip: the summit of Snaefell, the Mountain Road section of the TT course, Sulby Glen and the cliffs around the Calf of Man. Save offline maps before a hike on the Raad ny Foillan coastal path.
The Isle of Man is a Crown dependency separate from UK and EU plans, so a dedicated eSIM is worthwhile. Simsima runs on the local networks. Here is how a light 1 GB pack compares across eSIM providers:
If you would rather not track your usage, the Isle of Man also has unlimited-data eSIMs, with speed reduced after a daily high-speed allowance until the next day. Here is how the unlimited plans compare:
Simsima's full Isle of Man lineup runs from small packs up to larger monthly allowances on the local networks. Because the island is small and hotels have Wi-Fi, a 1 to 3 GB plan is enough for most trips, with more for longer stays or a busy TT week.
A typical visit arrives on the Steam Packet ferry into Douglas or a flight to Ronaldsway, rides the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey and the Snaefell Mountain Railway to the summit, and spends a day each in Peel and Castletown. TT visitors add long days on the banks of the Mountain Course.
That comes to about 2 to 3 GB for a long weekend, a small or mid-size capped plan. A full TT fortnight with daily video uploads calls for a larger plan or the unlimited table.
Installation takes a couple of minutes and is best done at home on Wi-Fi before you travel. The plan activates on its own when it connects to a local network on arrival, so the validity window does not start early.
Most visitors combine the island with England, Scotland or Ireland, arriving by ferry from Heysham, Liverpool, Belfast or Dublin. Because the Isle of Man sits outside both UK domestic plans and EU roaming, the simplest setup is a UK or Ireland plan for the mainland and a short Isle of Man plan for the island, or a regional plan that names the Isle of Man in its country list. Check that list carefully: many Europe and UK plans leave the island out.
There is no Manx phone number, signal can dip on Snaefell and in remote glens, and an Isle of Man plan does not cover the UK or Ireland. A UK contract phone may also need unlocking first.
It usually connects, because Manx Telecom has roaming agreements with many operators, but the island is not part of the UK and some UK plans charge roaming there. Check your provider's list of included destinations.
Switch data roaming off on your UK line, which would otherwise roam onto Manx networks, and on for the Isle of Man eSIM, which needs it to join Manx Telecom or Sure.
Look for a plan that names the Isle of Man explicitly. Dedicated Isle of Man plans from several providers are compared in the tables above.
5G is still rolling out on the island, so expect 4G in most places. Where 5G is available, access also varies by plan and phone.
Yes. The UK SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, though calls received on it while on the island may be billed as roaming by your UK provider. Data runs on the Isle of Man eSIM.
