Zain, STC or Ooredoo: what nPerf measured in Kuwait
nPerf's Kuwaiti barometer for April 2025 to March 2026 ranks Zain first on overall score, statistically level with STC, with Ooredoo third (nPerf barometer, 2026). Zain also had the highest average download speed at 129.92 Mbps, ahead of STC at 116.31 Mbps and Ooredoo at 85.67 Mbps.
All three are fast enough for video calls and streaming across Kuwait City, Salmiya and Fahaheel. The difference only shows on long desert drives toward Wafra or Abdali. The networks used by each Simsima Kuwait plan are listed in its details.
Local eSIMs in Kuwait are built for residents
Kuwaiti operators do sell eSIMs, but they are designed for people living in the country. Ooredoo, for example, moves a line to eSIM through its app, with an identity check through the Kuwait Mobile ID app (Ooredoo Kuwait eSIM), which works with a Kuwaiti civil ID.
A visitor without a civil ID buys a prepaid SIM in an operator shop or at the airport, with a passport, and gets a Kuwaiti +965 number. Kuwait has no metro, and from May to September the heat makes walking between districts impractical for most of the day. Visitors rely on taxis, hotel cars and ride apps, and mobile data makes it easier to share a pin with the driver, since many addresses are given by block and street number.
