In practice both are quick enough in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Pakse for maps, messaging and video calls. The Laos-China Railway and the LCR Ticket app

Since December 2021, the Laos-China Railway has cut the Vientiane to Luang Prabang trip from a full day on mountain roads to a few hours by train, with stops at Vang Vieng.
