Make Your Data Last Longer
The settings that quietly consume a plan, and how to cap usage on iPhone and Android.
Make Your Data Last Longer
Most plans are exhausted by background activity, not by browsing. A few settings changed on arrival make a large difference.
Turn Off the Big Consumers First
Watch Usage as You Go
iPhone: Settings > Cellular shows usage per line and per app. Add the Battery and Cellular widgets to your home screen for a glance-level view.
Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > your plan > App data usage.
Set a Hard Limit on Android
Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > your plan > Data warning & limit. Set a limit slightly below your allowance and Android will cut mobile data when it is reached, preventing a silent overrun.
iPhone has no equivalent hard cap — check usage manually, or turn the line off when you are on Wi-Fi.
