Being a recent iPhone is not enough — some regional variants ship without eSIM hardware.

The Quick Test

1Settings > General > About

2Scroll to Model Number and tap it until it changes to a code beginning with A

3Alternatively, look for a Carrier Lock entry — its presence indicates a cellular model

If Settings > Cellular offers Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan, your device supports eSIM. That is the most reliable single check.

Models That Do Not Support eSIM

iPhones sold in mainland China do not have eSIM. Hong Kong and Macau models vary by generation. If your model number corresponds to a Chinese-market variant, no eSIM can be installed regardless of the iOS version.

Devices Bought in Turkey

Some iPhones and iPads purchased in Turkey before 23 June 2020 shipped with eSIM disabled. See our separate article on activating those.
