What causes this iPhone error during installation and how to get past it.

Error: "Unable to Activate eSIM"

This iPhone error appears while the eSIM profile is being downloaded, not after. It almost always means the download was interrupted or the profile was already used.

Work through these in order:

1Turn off any VPN. A VPN is the single most common cause.

2Use a stable connection. Hotel, ship and airport Wi-Fi frequently break the download. Switch to another network or your home carrier's data.

3Check you have not installed it already. Settings > General > About — if the ICCID from your confirmation email is listed, the eSIM is installed and you only need to turn the line on.

4Free up eSIM slots. iPhones store between 5 and 10 eSIM profiles. Remove old, expired ones and try again.

5Update iOS to the latest version.

Then Try the Other Installation Method

If the QR code failed, install manually instead: Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code > Enter Details Manually, then paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your confirmation email.

If It Still Fails

The profile may have been consumed by the failed attempt. Contact us with your order number and we will check whether the eSIM needs to be reissued.
