Vodafone roaming USA: £8 a day, Premier plans, PAYG Extras

On a Vodafone pay monthly plan, the USA costs £8 a day. The charge applies by itself on any day you make a call, send a text or use data there, and you use your UK allowance. The seven Premier plans include the USA at no extra cost, up to 25GB a month. On pay as you go, an 8-day Around the World Extra with 2GB, 100 minutes and 100 texts costs £19.31; without one, data costs 12p per MB (as of 26 October 2026).

How much is Vodafone roaming in the USA on pay monthly?

The USA is in Vodafone's Zone C, with Canada, Mexico and Australia. If your plan doesn't include it, you pay a daily roaming charge of £8. It applies on each day you make a call, send a text or use mobile data, and that usage comes out of your UK allowance. The £8 rate has applied since 14 April 2026; before that, it was £7.86. Vodafone's roaming charge checker shows £6 a day for plans bought before 11 August 2021. Pay monthly has no USA pass: the 8-day and 15-day roaming passes on Vodafone's Extras page only cover Europe.

What a trip costs with the daily charge

Every day you use your phone counts: 3 days cost £24, a week £56 and two weeks £112. Vodafone also sets a roaming fair use limit of 25GB per billing month. It warns you as you get close. Above 25GB, data costs £3.84 per GB until your allowance renews.

Which Vodafone plans include roaming in the USA?

Vodafone's rule: if your plan has 84 inclusive roaming destinations, the USA is included, up to 25GB. In the current range, these are the seven Premier plans (as of 26 October 2026, Vodafone SIM only deals, roaming charge checker):

Plus plans include 52 European destinations, not the USA. On those and on every other plan, you pay the £8 daily charge. Over any four months, if you roam for 62 days or more and use more in its roaming destinations than in the UK, Vodafone may add charges; it texts you 14 days before.

Vodafone pay as you go in the USA: Around the World Extras

No pay as you go plan includes the USA. It's in Around the World, a group of 74 destinations. Without an Extra, data costs 12p per MB, calls 60p a minute, receiving calls 36p a minute and texts 8p each: 100MB costs £12. How the Around the World Extras work

You buy an Extra in the My Vodafone app or by text message; the codes are on the Extras page. It starts as soon as you buy it and ends after 8 or 15 days, or earlier once you've used the allowance. It doesn't renew, and if you buy the same Extra again before the first one ends, you lose what's left of the first. After the allowance, the standard rates apply. Vodafone's terms say activation can take up to 24 hours, and the 8 or 15 days run from purchase: buy it shortly before you fly (as of 26 October 2026, Vodafone Extras, Around the World Extra terms).

With its pay as you go Plus Extras, Vodafone also lists a data-only 8-day Around the World Extra: 2GB for £13.68, added in the My Vodafone app.

“Roaming in the USA has changed”: what the notice means

Vodafone's Extras page and roaming charge checker show the notice “Roaming in the USA (United States of America) has changed”. The FAQ link goes to Vodafone's general help pages, and we found no USA-specific price change behind it. Vodafone's USA pages cover the end of 3G there: US networks switched off 3G in 2022, and Vodafone now offers 4G Calling abroad in the USA. Before you fly, check that your phone supports 4G, and ideally 4G Calling abroad (Vodafone FAQ on US roaming and the 3G switch-off, 4G Calling abroad in the USA).

Calculator: Vodafone or an eSIM for the USA?

The calculator asks: “Is roaming in the United States already included in your plan?” If you answer “Not sure”, it works out the cost as if the USA isn't included and, for Vodafone pay monthly, names the seven Premier plans that include it. If you answer “Yes”, it shows no cost and reminds you that your plan's data allowance applies. On pay monthly, it counts one £8 daily charge per day of your trip. On pay as you go, it counts as many 8-day or 15-day Around the World Extras as your data needs, since Vodafone lets you buy another one. It leaves out the Pay as you go Plus data-only Extra. Answer “No” there, as no pay as you go plan includes the USA.

When an eSIM costs less than Vodafone roaming

• You're on pay monthly without a Premier plan and staying more than a few days: two weeks cost £112.
• Your UK data allowance is small. The daily charge only lets you use the data you already have.
• You're on pay as you go and need more than the 2GB or 4GB in an Extra. Without one, each MB costs 12p.

When you don't need an eSIM

• You have a Premier plan: the USA is included, up to 25GB a month.
• You're there for a day or two and your UK allowance is enough.
• You're on pay as you go and 2GB or 4GB covers your trip.
• You make lots of calls on your own number: the daily charge uses your UK minutes.
• Your phone doesn't support eSIM.
