Many UK plans include France at no extra cost, subject to fair use: O2, Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile, giffgaff, SMARTY, Lyca Mobile and Three Pay As You Go. EE charges £2.72 a day unless your plan includes Europe, and Vodafone £2.75 unless you're on a Plus or Premier plan; both charges start automatically. VOXI includes France in none of its plans: a European Roaming Pass costs from £2.60 for a day (as of 26 October 2026).
Key takeaways
- Nothing extra to pay in France on O2 (up to 25GB), Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile (30GB), giffgaff (5GB per plan), SMARTY (12GB), Lyca Mobile and Three Pay As You Go.
- EE: £2.72 for each day you use your phone in France, unless you're on an Essentials Plus, Essentials Plus Max, All Rounder or Full Works plan. A 7-day pass costs £16.50.
- Vodafone: £2.75 a day, or £16 for an 8-day pass, unless you're on a Plus or Premier plan.
- Three charges £2.75 or £2 a day, depending on when you joined, unless you're on Value or Complete; Sky charges £2 per 24 hours, and VOXI needs a pass from £2.60.
Is France included in your UK plan?
Often, yes. These networks include France on every current plan, subject to fair use (as of 26 October 2026, O2, Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile, giffgaff, SMARTY, Lyca Mobile, Three Pay As You Go):
- O2: every phone plan, up to 25GB a month (10GB on the Essential Plan), and every Pay As You Go SIM, up to 25GB. Tablet SIMs only work in the UK.
- Tesco Mobile: all customers, pay monthly and pay as you go; Tesco publishes no GB limit.
- iD Mobile: every plan, up to 30GB a month, then 10p per MB.
- giffgaff: every plan, with up to 5GB of data per plan, not per month or per visit, then 10p per MB.
- SMARTY: every plan, up to 12GB of data a month.
- Lyca Mobile: every current plan, with 2.5GB to 35GB in the EU depending on the plan, then 15p per MB.
- Three Pay As You Go: your credit at 10p per MB, or part of your Data Pack.
EE, Vodafone and Three include France on some plans, listed below.
EE roaming in France
£2.72 a day, unless your plan includes Europe
France is in the EE Europe Zone. These plans include it, with a fair use limit of 50GB if your UK allowance is bigger than that: Essentials Plus, Essentials Plus Max, All Rounder, All Rounder for iPhone, Full Works, Full Works for iPhone and Full Works Plus. EE No Frills and Essentials don't include Europe (as of 26 October 2026, EE plan terms, EE SIM only plans).
On every other plan, EE charges £2.72 a day to use your UK minutes, texts and data in France. It starts automatically the first time you make a call, send a text or use data that day, and covers you until 11.59pm UK time. If your plan started before 7 July 2021, EE's roaming checker shows France at no extra cost (EE price guide, EE roaming costs).
EE's EU passes
The Weekly EU Roaming Pass costs £16.50 and the 15-days EU Pass £30. Both use your UK allowance. You can only buy one once you're in France: EE texts you a link when you land.
EE Pay As You Go in France
No EE Pay As You Go plan includes France. With an active 30-Day or Saver plan, you can opt in to Roam like Home once you arrive: £2.50 for 24 hours or £10 for 7 days. Without it, calls cost 70p a minute, texts 30p, and data needs an EU data add-on, 500MB for £3 (as of 26 October 2026, EE Pay As You Go in the EU).
Vodafone roaming in France
France, Corsica included, is in Vodafone's Zone B. If your plan, bought on or after 11 August 2021, doesn't include it, you pay £2.75 a day for calls, texts and data from your UK allowance, on each day you use your phone there. It applies by itself. Vodafone's roaming fair use limit is 25GB per billing month; above it, data costs £3.84 per GB (as of 26 October 2026, Vodafone price guide, Vodafone roaming).
Plans with 52 or 84 inclusive roaming destinations include France, up to 25GB. In the current SIM only range, that's Vodafone Mobile 30GB, 100GB, 120GB and Unlimited Plus; 30GB, 100GB, 120GB and Unlimited SuperMobile Plus; Vodafone Mobile 30GB, 100GB and Unlimited Premier; and 30GB, 100GB, 120GB and Unlimited SuperMobile Premier (Vodafone SIM only deals).
Otherwise, the 8-day European Roaming pass costs £16 and the 15-day pass £21, with your UK allowance. You can buy a pass at any time: it waits on your account and starts when you begin roaming. You can't hold two at once.
Vodafone Pay as you go in France
No Vodafone Pay as you go plan includes France, and you need an Extra to use data there: the 8-day Europe Data Extra gives you 3GB for £10.30, the 8-day Europe Extra 3GB, 100 minutes and 200 texts for £13.68. An Extra starts as soon as you buy it and ends after 8 days or when you've used it. You can buy another when it runs out (as of 26 October 2026, Vodafone Extras, Europe Roaming Extras terms).
Three, Sky and VOXI in France
Three: Three Your Way Value and Complete include France, up to 12GB a month, on plans joined or upgraded from 22 June 2025. On other plans, a daily charge starts automatically with your first call, text or data use and unlocks your UK allowance for 24 hours. It's £2.75 if you joined or upgraded on or after 18 December 2025, charged since 1 April 2026; it's £2 if you joined between 1 October 2021 and 17 December 2025, or on a 24-month SIM Only Lite plan (25GB or 120GB). If you joined before October 2021, Three lists your charges in its older price guides (as of 26 October 2026, Three price guide, Three roaming, Go Roam).
Go Roam in Europe passes cost £5 for 3 days, £12 for 7 days and £24 for 14 days, with your UK allowance. Europe Data Travel Passes give you separate data: 18GB for 7 days at £16, for example. Three's data roaming limit is £45 excluding VAT (£54 including VAT) a month (your data roaming limit).
Sky Mobile: Roaming Passport Plus costs £2 per 24 hours and starts automatically when you make a call, send a text or use more than 10MB of data in a day. Receiving a call doesn't start it. You use your UK allowance, with fair use of 25GB per billing period. Sky caps data roaming spend at £45 a month by default (as of 26 October 2026, Sky price guide, Roaming Passport Plus).
VOXI: no plan includes France. To use your plan's allowance there, you need a European Roaming Pass: £2.60 for 1 day, £4.80 for 2 days, £15 for 8 days or £20 for 15 days, with fair use of 20GB per 30-day plan. A pass starts as soon as you buy it and doesn't renew, according to terms dated 30 July 2025 (as of 26 October 2026, VOXI European Roaming Passes terms).

Roaming or eSIM: what will your France trip cost?
If your network includes France on every current plan, the calculator says your plan already covers it, noting that some plans have a lower fair use limit abroad.
For the others, it asks: "Is roaming in France already included in your plan?" "Yes" shows no cost. "Not sure" calculates as if France isn't included and names your network's plans that include it, such as EE's seven plans. Three appears twice, by the date you joined or upgraded. Daily charges and passes come with a reminder that they use your usual data allowance. For separate data, such as Vodafone's Europe Extras, it adds another one when the data runs out, as Vodafone allows.
Monaco, Andorra and the French overseas regions
Monaco is in the Europe zone of EE, O2, Vodafone, Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile and VOXI, but not of Three, Sky, giffgaff, SMARTY or Lyca Mobile. On Sky, data there costs 36p per MB; on SMARTY and Three Pay As You Go, 10p per MB (Three destinations, Sky price guide, SMARTY Price Guide).
Andorra is outside every Europe zone we checked. A day there costs £8 on Vodafone plans bought on or after 11 August 2021. On Three, unless your plan includes it (Complete does), it's £8, or £7 if you joined or upgraded between 1 October 2021 and 17 December 2025 or are on SIM Only Lite. Sky Mobile covers Andorra with a separate £2 Roaming Passport Plus, and Lyca Mobile's EU Roaming Passes include it. Data costs £5 per MB on SMARTY, and Tesco Mobile lists no data, calls or texts in Andorra (as of 26 October 2026, EE plan terms, Vodafone roaming, Vodafone price guide, Three roaming, Tesco Mobile roaming).
Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion and Mayotte are in the Europe zone of EE, O2, Three and Vodafone (EE plan terms, O2 EU roaming, Three destinations).
When an eSIM makes sense for France, and when it doesn't
With daily charges of £2 to £2.75, a short trip rarely costs much. An eSIM is worth comparing in these cases:
- Your UK data allowance is small: daily charges and passes only let you use the data you already have.
- You're on Vodafone Pay as you go and need more than 3GB in 8 days, or on EE Pay As You Go without a 30-Day or Saver plan.
- Your EU limit is low for your trip: 5GB per plan on giffgaff, 2.5GB on Lyca's smaller plans.
You don't need an eSIM from us if:
- Your plan includes France and its fair use limit covers your trip.
- You're there for a weekend and a few daily charges cost less.
- You need a French phone number.
- Your phone doesn't support eSIM or is locked to your network.
Our eSIM is data only, so your UK number stays active on your SIM for calls and texts. You install the eSIM before you go, and it activates when you arrive. You can get a refund within 14 days if it hasn't been activated, and every purchase earns 4% cashback in SimCoins. You need an eSIM-compatible phone.
With the eSIM set for mobile data, turn off data roaming on your UK line. On EE, Vodafone, Three and Sky, a call or text from your UK number still starts that day's charge.
Best eSIM for France — eSIM providers for France side by side
Before you go: step by step
- Check in your network's app whether your plan includes France, and how much data you can use there.
- Vodafone pay monthly passes can be bought before you leave, EE passes only in France; VOXI passes and Vodafone Pay as you go Extras start when you buy them.
- On giffgaff, turn on the credit spend cap, which is off by default.
- Or install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi by scanning its QR code, then choose it for mobile data when you arrive.
- With no plan, pass or eSIM covering you, turn off data roaming and use Wi-Fi.
