Everything to prepare before your trip for a seamless eSIM experience.
Before You Travel: eSIM Checklist
Follow this checklist a day or two before your trip to avoid any issues at your destination.
1. Check Device Compatibility
Confirm your phone supports eSIM (Settings > General > About > look for EID on iPhone)
Make sure your device is carrier-unlocked
2. Purchase Your Plan
Select the right country or regional plan for your destination
Choose enough data for your trip duration and usage habits
Complete your purchase and save the confirmation email
3. Install the eSIM (But Do Not Activate)
Use Smart Link, QR code, or manual entry to download the eSIM profile
The eSIM will appear in your device settings as a new plan
Do not enable it yet — wait until you arrive at your destination
4. Label Your eSIM
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the new plan > rename it (e.g., "Simsima Japan")
On Android: Settings > Network > SIMs > tap the new SIM > rename it
This helps you quickly identify it among multiple eSIM profiles
5. Know Your Settings
Before traveling, locate these settings on your device:
iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your Simsima plan > Turn On This Line + Data Roaming
Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > your Simsima plan > toggle on + Roaming
6. At Your Destination
When you arrive:
1Turn on the Simsima eSIM line
2Enable Data Roaming
3Set Simsima as your mobile data source (if not automatic)
4Wait 30-60 seconds for the network to connect
5Open a browser to confirm internet access
Pro Tips
Install at home on Wi-Fi — You need internet to download the eSIM profile
Keep your primary SIM — It stays active for calls and texts from your home number
Screenshot your QR code — Useful backup in case you switch devices
Download offline maps — Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline downloads. Do this on Wi-Fi before your trip.
