How Many eSIMs Can I Install?
Two separate limits apply, and confusing them causes a lot of frustration.
How many you can store. iPhones hold roughly 5 to 10 eSIM profiles depending on the model. Android devices vary widely by manufacturer. Once storage is full, new installations fail — typically with Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change.
How many can be active at once. Usually two lines total, for example your home SIM plus one eSIM. Some recent devices allow more. Stored but inactive profiles do not count.
Each eSIM Installs Once
A given eSIM can be installed on one device, one time. It cannot be installed on a second device, and it cannot be reinstalled after removal — see moving an eSIM to a new phone.
Attempting a second installation produces This code is no longer valid.
Freeing Up Space
Remove expired profiles rather than current ones: Settings > Cellular > select an old plan > Remove eSIM. See removing an eSIM safely before deleting anything.
